Burbank Parks: A Practical Guide to Places and Planning

A park can be a quick stop after work, a place to practice a sport or the reason you take a different route on a weekend. This Burbank parks guide helps you find a starting point without turning a list of amenities into promises about what will be available when you arrive.

The Burbank Park District describes a system of 12 parks. Use the directory below to narrow your options, then check the District's current information for the activity you have in mind.

Find a Burbank park

These location references come from the Park District's park directory, except Owens, which uses its more specific gazebo-rental page. An intersection identifies the area, not necessarily the best entrance or parking access.

Nottingham75th Street and Nottingham Avenue
Owens78th Street and Leamington Avenue; confirm the gazebo entrance when booking
Rice77th Street and Central Avenue

The District's pages are not completely consistent: its general directory repeats Nottingham's location for Owens, while the rental page identifies Owens at 78th and Leamington. Use the rental office to confirm your destination before an Owens event. The directory also gives Latrobe both a street address and a broader intersection; the street address above is the more specific reference.

Choose by the visit you want to have

Think about the activity first. Do you need a short walk, space for organized play, a reserved gathering place or a facility with indoor options? Decide what is essential before comparing locations.

Park size alone does not answer that question. The directory lists Michael Looney at 28.9 acres and Latrobe at 0.4 acre. The District describes Newcastle as a 16.2-acre park with athletic fields and an adjoining recreation center. Those are useful scale references, not measures of quality, accessibility or crowding. For an indoor alternative, Fusion Recplex offers fitness and recreation facilities at 6100 W. 85th Street. The neighboring water park is seasonal. Check the relevant program, membership or admission arrangements rather than assuming every facility is included in a casual park visit. Fusion Recplex and other District facilities.

Planning a picnic or gathering?

The District identifies gazebo sites at Owens, Stevenson, Fitzgerald, Harr and Nottingham. Its rules say ordinary use may be first come, first served, but rentals can reserve space and District programming takes precedence. Contact the District before sending invitations. Park and gazebo rules.

The rental page states a two-hour minimum and provides current contact information. Confirm the date, location, capacity, accessibility, permitted activities and full rental terms directly; do not budget from an old brochure. The same page states that alcohol is not allowed in outdoor parks or gazebos. Gazebo-rental information.

A quick before-you-go check

  • Hours: Published general park hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Check posted notices and any separate facility schedule. Park rules.
  • Availability: Confirm the particular court, field, playground or restroom you need, including maintenance and weather-related limitations. A directory listing does not reserve a space for you.
  • Access: Ask about the actual route, surface, restroom and equipment features that matter to your visit. An accessible feature at one location should not be assumed at another.
  • Dogs: Do not assume an ordinary park permits pets. Check the District's rules and its separate Barking Lot registration arrangements before bringing a dog. Park rules; Barking Lot information in the park directory.
  • Questions: Reach the Burbank Park District at 708-599-3873. The District's contact details also list its administrative office at Fusion Recplex.

Put the park on your home-search route

If living near a park matters to you, include it in a property visit. Walk or drive the route you would actually use. Notice crossings, parking and the difference between a weekday afternoon and an organized event. A map's straight-line distance will not tell you all of that.

Then evaluate the home on its own merits: condition, layout, ownership costs and the documents relevant to that property. Park proximity does not establish school attendance, property value, noise levels or whether a home fits your priorities.
